Unzipping SVG Cutting Files in Windows.
You’ve purchased cutting files off the internet, and you’re not sure where they have downloaded to, or the files wont open in Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio. As a seller of cutting files myself, most of the time it’s because the files need to be unzipped.
Most downloads these days come in a zipped format, don’t worry I’m not going to bore you with the ins and outs of what a zipped file is. I’m here to show you how to use those awesome cutting files you’ve just purchased.
If you are trying to unzip SVG Files on a Mac, see our guide on how to unzip SVG Files on a Mac.
Download the files you have purchased/downloaded for free from the download link.
For this example i’m going to download my freebie cutting file from my post; How to Weld Letters in Silhouette Studio
I’ve clicked on the huge box which says ‘Bonus Freebie Download Here’, i’m using Google chrome to download my files, and the folder will appear to the bottom left of the screen. You can click on that once it’s done downloading, however this will not automatically unzip the files.
Navigate to the downloads folder on your computer, usually found under ‘This PC’
Right click on the file you have just downloaded, and select ‘Extract all’.
A box similar to the box below right will appear, this is asking you where you would like your files to be extracted to.
Click on the browse button, and navigate to where you want the files to go. (If you haven’t already, I suggest creating a folder for all your downloads, that way it keeps them all together in one place, you can even categorise them if you want)
I have created a folder called free files which I have chosen for my file to go. Click on Select Folder, the box on the left will re-appear with the destination of the folder you have just selected. Click Extract.
The folder you’ve extracted the files too will open and your files will be ready to use.
That’s it, you have successfully unzipped your downloaded files.
Another point I would like to make is; if you open the files via the folder the file will open up like a ‘photo’ in a web page. This is normal, in order to use it for it’s intended purpose you will need to open it in your cutting software.
