Design a Spooky Halloween Spider in Silhouette Studio + Free SVG & DXF File

As Halloween is slowly creeping up on us…ok well we have over a month, but before you know it it’ll be here, and we know as crafters, and especially if you have your own crafty business, we need to plan months in advance (Christmas in July anyone?).

In this tutorial I am going to show you how you can design your own Spooky Spider in Silhouette Studio (to be honest he’s quite cute, and that’s coming from me who’s not a big fan of spiders!)….and of course I have a lovely freebie for you as well – link is in the usual spot at the bottom of this post.

Here’s a sneaky peek at this weeks freebie…..

Silhouette Cameo Tutorial

Open your Silhouette Studio….and lets get started.

1: Draw an oval shape using the ellipsis tool – This for the spiders face.

Now to make the legs, draw two more ovals (you can also twice duplicate the oval above.) Place one oval overlapping the other oval (as shown below)

Select both the ovals, go to object modify and subtract.

You should be left with a half moon shape, as shown in the below image – This will for part of the spiders legs. – Place the leg over the oval you drew earlier.

2: The ‘legs’ are a little bit too long, Adjust the size of the ‘leg’ until you’re happy with the size of them. Duplicate the legs (You can either click on the leg, press alt and then drag, or you can copy and paste) – whichever you feel comfortable with.

Now, rotate the legs so they appear a little more ‘dangly’ (Use the green circle when you select the leg to adjust and rotate accordingly)

Once you’re happy with the dangly-ness of your spiders legs, select all the legs and group them together (right click and select group.)

We’re going to us the mirror option to make the other half of the spiders legs. Select the legs, go to object – Replicate – Mirror left.

Position the newly mirrored legs to the other side of your spider.

Once you are happy with the positioning of the legs on your spider, select all parts of your spider, right click and click weld.

3: Next draw an eye, I’ve just left it simple and drawn a circle, I’ve then copied the circle and pasted in front (Ctrl-C then Ctrl-F) click on the top circle and reduce the size (this will form the ‘pupil’) – Group the big eye and smaller eye together

Place the eye on the spider and duplicate. (You can colour them in however you wish)

The last thing to do is draw the mouth, draw two small ovals, one overlapping the other, select both the ovals, and using the same option we used earlier, got to object-modify and subtract.

Place the mouth on the spider, and there you have your very own Spooky Halloween Spider Design.
