Scalable Vector Graphics or SVG are images different from Bitmap and work on the analytical calculation of two-dimensional vectors.

You might be wondering how to create them? Are there any tools to use? What are the different paths to success with SVG files? We’ll get into detail and explain each question in this article.

SVG files are XML-based markup language, which means you can edit or customize them as per your requirement in the text editor.

Why SVG Images?

Most images you see on websites are PNG or JPG images; these are raster or bitmap images. Bitmap images store information in individual pixels. For example, information like color, font, and design is mentioned in the pixels.

Unfortunately, to cut the files, the blades in the Circuit require more information like direction and dimension, which is easily found in vector images. Therefore, you should opt for SVG files if you know what design to make and what path to cut. SVG images contain path information in XML format

How To Make Digital Files?

If you are an artist and want to put your ideas on a digital canvas, there are various paths that you can lead. One of them is drawing the sketches on paper, scanning them on the computer, and editing them with the help of Inkscape. In addition, some sites help in creating digital files from scratch.

If you are not a creative person, you can download it from any website. Here is an example of a vector graphic image.

Tools To Create SVG Files?

Some graphical editors help in creating and image manipulation. Some of the graphical editing tools are:

  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Sketch
  • Inkscape

What is Inkscape?

Inkscape is open-source software. It is used for vector illustration and creating SVG cut files. It uses vector graphics for sharp cuts or point-outs and rendering images at unlimited resolution. Inkscape lets you create an image that is not limited to a fixed number of pixels like a raster image.

Now you have picked the software, and the next step is creating SVG cut files. Remember, we discussed drawing on a piece of paper and transferring it to digital canvas? We will proceed on that path. First, take the image and scan it to upload it to your computer. Then, upload the image to Inkscape.

After uploading, here are few steps you should follow:

  • Choose the downloaded image to upload in Inkscape. Open the JPEG or PNG silhouette image from the files and then click on the image to select it.
  • After selecting, choose “edit” to create a bitmap copy. After creating the bitmap copy, move it aside from the original copy. Finally, click the Delete key to delete the original copy.
  • Select the bitmap copy, then go to View>Display Mode> Outline. Select Path then Trace Bitmap; the image which remains is the SVG file. Choose a filter.
  • Click OK.

Creating SVG file in Adobe Illustrator

Perhaps the most convenient way to create an SVG file from scratch in Adobe Illustrator. While it has been possible to create an SVG cut file in Illustrator for quite some time, regardless, the new Illustrator CC2015 added streamlined SVG features. These features include exporting options, generating SVG files, and copying and pasting the code in the text editor.

  • Open Adobe Illustrator, and create a design using the tools.
  • Apply different layers to the SVG file, go to SVG filter and apply it
  • Next, click File from the left corner and then select export.
  • Click save after export so that you can use the file outside adobe illustrator.
  • When you save the file, save the file type as SVG.

And then, you can use it to upload or put it in a text editor, the arena for creativity is versatile after creating an SVG file.

How To Make SVG Image In Silhouette Studio

Create scalable vector image in silhouette studio; make sure you have Business Edition; this helps save the file s SVG image. You can open SVG files in Designer Edition and save them as SVG file after modifying.

Step 1: Open Silhouette Studio

In the silhouette studio, you can set the image’s cutting map. Then, on the left-hand side, you would get drawing tools; select the polygon from there. Then, draw out the polygon and use the slider to draw the design you are willing to create.

For instance, if you want to make a tree, draw four to five circles and draw a rectangle for the stem.

Step 2: Use the Edit points tool

After creating a rough design, you can use the edits points tool to refine the edit points and make the rectangle skinny, fat, or tall.

Step 3: Weld the circles

Select all the overlapping circles and then open Modify panel. You can modify the circles in the design of the tree by welding them into one. Use the Weld tool for this.

Step 4: Draw freehand

After creating the structure of the tree, use the same procedure to draw a bird. It is optional. You can use freehand to place the bird in the tree.

Step 5: Fill in the colors

After drawing the silhouette structure, use the color fill panel to color each shape in the canvas. This allows you to cut by color. If you want to preview the design that will be cut, then select the send button on the upper right, and this will show you each color representing different shapes in the SVG design.

Step 7: Save the design

If you are happy with the edits and modifications, then save the file. If you don’t have Business Edition, then you can save the file as a .studio file.

How To Create SVG from JPEG or PNG?

Do you have a JPEG or PNG file, now you want to convert an image into SVG? You can do it with Adobe Photoshop as an SVG converter. Let’s dive into the details.

  • Open Photoshop and select the quick selection tool from the black area.
  • Next, right-click on the image and select ‘Math work path’.
  • Go to the layer menu and select the ‘new file layer’; in that option, select ‘solid colors’.
  • Select a black color to get a new layer. The new layer is the vector layer.
  • You will see on the right-hand side; the image is shown with a different layer of colors—color all the layers in black.

Once you have the shape layer for different layers, select file>export> export as. From the drop-down menu, save the file in SVG format. Preview the image and make sure everything is in place and alright. Click OK and export all.

And that’s it!! It is easy and simple to convert JPEG or PNG images to SVG in photoshop. This is the easiest way to go ahead with the bitmap file and convert it into a different file.

We have listed the ways to create an SVG file. You can use the methods depending on your requirement. Each of the methods takes a different path in creating but has a similar result in creating an SVG file. Convert the raster images to an SVG file and make your website scalable on any device.
