Another week, and I have another freebie for you. This week I have a Thank You card (I think I might be slightly obsessed with cutting card stock) oh well…it’s fun!! The download link is at the end of this tutorial.
I’m also going to show you how to make your own thank you card with your Silhouette Studio Software. Although, you can make this in to another type of card, this concept will work with any greeting.
The card didn’t take all that long to design, so it’s a nice quick and easy tutorial, however it took me a while to figure out why my card wasn’t cutting all that well, and I realised I’d been using my old blade instead of my new one. (I’ve recently moved downstairs to a bigger room in my house so I must have forgotten to throw the old one away….ooops!!)
Open you Silhouette Software as usual.
Draw 2 rectangles – 6 inches x 8 inches and 5.5 inches x 3.5 inches – Position the smaller rectangle to the bottom of the bigger rectangle, leaving a gap, as shown in the image below right. Once you are happy with the positioning, select both rectangles, right click and select ‘Make Compound Path. – This is going to act as a ‘window’ where the ‘Thank you’ sentiment is going to go.
Draw another rectangle – 5.775 inches x 3.850 inches. – Put this to one side on your screen. This is going to be the inside backing for the sentiment (the pink card in our example)
Using the type tool type out ‘Thank you’, I would suggest typing out the two words separately, so one text box for Thank and one for You, this will make it easier when it comes to arranging the letters in the card ‘window.’
The font I’m using is Wilfur* and is available from The Hungry JPEG,* and comes with a complete commercial license.
Weld the letters of each word together. Keeping the two words separate.
Scale and arrange the words in the ‘window’ of the rectangles created in the first step. You can arrange them however you want, and not necessarily the same way I have arranged them.
Select the card base and the words, right click and select weld. (I’ve filled the card in just so I can see what it looks like a bit better)
I felt like the design was missing something and looked a little bare. I quickly made a flower in Silhouette Studio and arranged them in between the gaps of the words.
Once you have arranged the flower (or embellishment of your choice)Â select all the parts again (The card base and all the embellishments), Right click and select weld.
There’s just a few finishing touches before sending to cut, but we’re almost there :-)
Draw a line through the centre of the card, as shown. This will act as your score line, although if you prefer to score manually you can skip this step and go straight to cutting.
Go to the cut settings window, click on the centre line that you’ve just drawn and select ‘Perforate edge’ – This is the score line. For the rest it will be the normal ‘Cut’ option.
Now the card is ready to cut, don’t forget the 3rd rectangle we made in Step 1.

That’s it, you’ve designed your own Thank you card, although, don’t forget you can use this same concept for any type of sentiment….Happy Birthday, Anniversary, Congratulations, the list is almost endless.
