It’s that time of the week again, freebie and tutorial time. It comes round so quick that it won’t be long until I’m giving out Christmas Freebie Files (ssshhhh….Did someone say Christmas??) Ooops, well enough about that….for now. This week I have for you a tutorial on how to design a Sail Boat using Basic Shapes in Cricut Design Space and of course at the end you can download this weeks free Sail Boat SVG & DXF file.

If you want to stay up to date with my tutorials and freebies then please feel free to follow me on: Pinterest,Facebook or Instagram.

Now, lets get started, it’s a quick and easy tutorial so you’ll have your Sail Boat ready to cut in no time.

What’s a Bounding Box? – The bounding box is the square that appears around the object once you’ve selected it.

Open Cricut Design Space as usual and start a new project.

1; To make the Base of the boat, use the ‘Insert Shapes’ tool to draw an oval (on it’s side, like it’s lying down)

Now you need to slice the oval in half, to do this draw a square and position it over the top half of the oval – as shown. Select the rectangle and oval and click on the slice option.

Delete the top parts of the sliced image leaving only the bottom half of the oval – as shown. – This is Base of the Boat.

Use the ‘Insert Shapes’ tool to draw a vertical rectangle (you need to use the square option for this) make it thin as this is the pole for the Sail Boat. Position it to the centre of the Base as shown.

2; Draw a circle and position it in the middle of the base of the boat (you can draw more than one circle if you want to)

Select both the circle and the base of the boat. Click on the Slice option. Delete the sliced parts of the circle until you’re left with a ‘hole’ in the boat.

You’re almost there, all that’s left to do is to draw 2 triangles for the Sails, I have had to adjust the triangles quite a bit to get them this way, play around with adjusting them by using the ‘four arrows’ in green on the bounding box. Remember to un-tick the lock of the bounding box, this can be found at the opposite end to the arrows.
